Kunta Kinta (Roots) By Boat

This is also a day long trip that starts from your hotel direct to Banjul seaport join the boat with other people from different companies for a cruise to James Island, first you will have complimentarily drinks or coffee during the start of the cruise and also some sandwiches’, there might be chances of seeing dolphins swimming along which is always an extra bonus that makes the trip remarkable and unforgettable. Upon your arrival at the village (Juffureh), the guide will take you on a conducted tour to first visit the freedom pole, then to the national museum which comprises of all the activities that transpired on the island, then you walk through the village to visit the “kunta kinteh” family compound, a visit to the craft markets and most of all the warm welcome from the villagers with their smiles and love. You will learn about the slave trade which started in 1456 and later abolished in 1807. From there back to the boat for lunch, and a visit to the island, from there to Banjul seaport where your transport will be waiting.
